Commercial HVAC/R
Service Technician
Air Flow Services / AFS Climate Technologies is looking for motivated people who enjoy troubleshooting and want to build a long-term career in commercial HVAC and specialty refrigeration.
Our technicians serve commercial, biomedical, pharmaceutical, laboratory, and research facilities throughout Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia.
We welcome developing technicians and helpers with strong mechanical ability, experienced commercial HVAC and refrigeration technicians, and senior technicians ready to diagnose complex systems independently.
You do not need to know every piece of specialty equipment on day one. Bring a strong foundation, good troubleshooting instincts, and a willingness to learn.

Commercial HVAC
Rooftop units, split systems, heat pumps, air handlers, fan coils, mini-splits, and electrical and control systems.
Specialty refrigeration
Ultra-low-temperature freezers, laboratory refrigerators, walk-in cold rooms, environmental chambers, and other specialized equipment.
Continued technical training
Develop your refrigeration, electrical troubleshooting, controls, and equipment-specific skills through ongoing training.
THE ROLE
What you’ll do.
- Diagnose, maintain, install, and repair commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
- Troubleshoot compressors, motors, valves, sensors, electrical components, and control systems.
- Read wiring diagrams and schematics, and use pressures, temperatures, superheat, and subcooling to diagnose refrigeration problems.
- Service walk-in cold rooms, environmental chambers, and specialty laboratory equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and identify developing equipment problems.
- Document findings and recommended repairs, communicate professionally with customers, and travel in a company service vehicle.

- HVAC/R experience or strong mechanical aptitude and the drive to develop your skills.
- An understanding of the refrigeration cycle and electrical troubleshooting.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and read schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Logical problem-solving, clear communication, and a professional attitude.
- Ability to work independently as your experience allows.
- A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Commercial refrigeration, low-temperature, laboratory equipment, chamber, controls, or chiller experience is valued. A strong commercial HVAC technician interested in learning specialty equipment is encouraged to apply.
